Naples ShoppingNaples is without doubt the one of the prime destinations for shopping in Italy and the numerous districts in the city provide a shopper's paradise. Whether you are looking for high fashion, antiques, furniture or home accessories, rest assured that shopping in Naples provide you with a huge choice. The city is well-known for its pride in craftsmanship and if you want to see real craftsmen at work, simply wander around any of the narrow streets in the centre. You can also admire the wonderful monuments, statues and fountains as you walk downtown for some serious retail opportunities.

Naples shops are generally open from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 15:30 or 16:00 to 19:30 or 20:00, although many of the bigger shops now open all day. On Saturday shops tend to close earlier at around 17:30 and only a few open on Sundays. Also, many shops do not open on Monday morning, while there is usually late-night shopping every week on Thursdays.


Naples ShoppingYou do not need to look far in central Naples busy shopping centre to find the region's most famous products - coral jewellery from Torre del Greco and leather goods, including shoes, handbags and coats, much of which is manufactured in Northern Italy. The city also has many interesting antique shops, most of which are located on Via Santa Maria di Constantinopoli. Nearby Via San Gregorio Armeno is lined with shops that sell hand-carved models, including numerous figures from nativity scenes. Shops in Via dei Tribunali, Via B Croce and the surrounding side streets are also a good place to find gold, nativity scenes and other festive items. Nearby Largo San Martino also offers some superb panoramic views across the city. The back streets around Spaccanapoli and other old sections are still full of artisan workshops of all kinds.

In Naples, the main shopping area is around the Piazza dei Martiri, along Via Chiaia, Via Roma and pedestrian-only Via Calabritto. The Galleria Umberto at Via San Carlo is definitely worth visiting, as much for its simply stunning architecture as for the many stores. Visitors will find a wide variety of retail outlets trading in the four glass-roofed arcades.

Food Shops

Naples delicatessens and food shops are very well stocked with fine food and local delicacies, including hams, salami, cheeses of all kinds, breads, ready-made dishes, chocolate, cakes and a wide choice of gourmet food. In many of these shops you will also find some of the best Italian wines, ideal to enjoy with your fresh food on a picnic in one of the centrally located squares or parks.

Shopping in Capri

The other shopping centre in the Campania region is Capri, near to Naples, with many famous boutiques and popular shops on the island. Situated between the Piazzetta Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Camerelle, you will find the world's most prestigious names in clothing, shoes, antique shops and perfume stores - and much more besides. Capri is also well-known for its stylish, home-made sandals and informal summer clothing, all of which is readily available from shops on the island. Be sure to visit the interesting back streets, where the locals shop.

Shopping at the Almafi Coast

The bright ceramics sold at the Almafi Coast nearby Naples are famous throughout Italy. There are also many gift shops clustered around the Duomo cathedral, selling a wide range of goods, including artisan paper that is made by the town's only surviving paper mill.
